Tools for Effective Communication

When defensive we feel as if we need to protect ourselves from a threat. When we feel misunderstood, judged, unheard, unloved it easily make us feel unsafe and on the defensive. As much as possible, during the conversation as you recognize that you're feeling the need to protect yourself, pause and remind yourself you are safe. Do your best to not interrupt as the other person is speaking.

Trauma Doesn't Have to Traumatize

A year ago my husband had an accident on the job he was working. It was a traumatic situation that didn’t traumatize me!! My tendency would have been to make sure my husband and my kids had what they needed during that difficult time but not to think of and care for myself. Instead I walked through those weeks following the accident conscious of what I needed and taking action to make sure I cared for myself. I was able to clearly see the inner healing that had taken place all the months and years prior, and I healed myself even more through the process.

What to do when you can't sleep?

Sleep is important for rest, but what about the struggle to sleep when you have a chance? Kylee Nelson came on the show back in the Spring and shared her tips on improving sleep. To listen to that go here, episode 16. If you lay down to rest and thoughts flood your mind, here’s what you can do. Be intentional to process what’s happening in your life through out the day, so that you aren’t flooded with intrusive, or other thoughts, when you go to lay down. Engaging with your thoughts is necessary. Create pockets of time before you lay down to allow your mind to process and wander. The pockets of time you create can be small, and quick. Start small and build up!
