7. A Meditation: Let Love In

 Exercise self compassion and self acceptance by allowing love in. It will help to heal you.

Actionable Steps

For those times when you feel out of control, shaky, and unsafe, I’d like to share what I find helpful. You may find it helpful as well. These are my suggestions. Assuming you are safe in the present moment…

  1. Remind your self that nothing will harm you, that you are no longer a helpless child, because you may be flashing back to a previous time when you were in actuality unsafe and unsupported.

  2. Slow down your breathing... Take multiple deep breaths until you feel more relaxed. 

  3. Feel the ground beneath you. Focus on what is in your present surroundings. This practice can help to bring you back to the present reality instead of the subconscious one you’re remembering.

  4. Let your body express what it’s feeling. Sometimes I wrap my arms around myself as if to give me a hug, or I shake my hands up and down until I feel a bit calmer.

  5. Can you identify what triggered you? If not, let it go. You can think more deeply about that at another time when you are less activated.

  6. Consider who wants to help you, to offer you acceptance, love and support.

  7. What can you do to begin to accept their love and support?
